Market Sectors - Engineering

The sector in which BIF began installing resin floor coatings and screeds over 30 years ago still accounts for a sizeable percentage of our business.

Any area can be spruced up with a bit of floor paint, but the amount and type of preparation is a key factor in how well the finish will bond to substrates. BIF staff are extremely well trained in correctly preparing oily or similarly contaminated surfaces and by using our own staff BIF are able to confidently set ourselves apart from our competitors by offering long term performance warranties.

Choice of material is equally important and considerations of underfoot safety and ease of cleaning are as important as having the right floor to withstand heavy impact and similarly aggressive issues that are likely to damage floor surfaces.

  • Contact with chemically aggressive lubricants, fuels and solvents

  • Welding sparks

  • Contact with hot metal fragments

  • Heavy point loading

  • Heavy wheel turning

  • Impact Damage

Oil Contaminated Floors

Oil contamination often creates a challenge for anyone trying to coat or screed a floor as often the new finish quickly peels from the surface as the oil. BIF can mechanically prepare the floor surface and use oil and moisture tolerant primers to ensure that new finishes achieve a strong, lasting bond to the concrete surface.

Inspection Pits

Inspection Pits can also leak and create damp, further reducing the working environment. BIF can tank these areas using modified renders that prevent moisture ingress to leave a dry environment. Both pit bases and walls can then be finished with wipedown surfaces, giving a dry, light and more comfortable working environment.

Choosing the Right Finish

Although the cheapest initial solution is a floor coating, epoxy and polyurethane screeds provide a far greater resistance to impact damage in workshop areas. Once a contaminated floor has been thoroughly cleaned and prepared, an epoxy screed then provides the long term wear layer. Future coats of floor paint can then be more effectively applied to give longer term service.

Underfoot Safety

Oil, grease and water can create a hazardous working environment. BIF can advise on suitable systems that will improve slip resistance levels. Once installed, regular cleaning will maintain safety levels of the new finish.
